Plays and Other Writing
I write for adults and teens as well as children and, in this section, you'll find scripts, books and a range of articles aimed at an older audience. I've included all my plays here because, even when they are intended for children, performances are usually organised by adults.
Doctor Hoof
This short play for children is adapted from my picture book of the same name. I wrote it for children to perform, but it's also suitable for a group of adults to perform to children.
All For A Good Cause
This one act play is a comedy drama set in a charity shop where the staff have to deal with personal problems and eccentric customers while the police struggle to solve a major robbery. It has 4 main femaie characters plus 3 others - 1 male, 2 female.
Santa Claus - The Panto
Like all pantos, this is aimed at a family audience and includes a dame, corny jokes and a battle between good and evil where good triumps in the end. I wrote the panto for my local amateur theatre and you can download it free. You don't need a license to perform it - just make a donation to The Cystic Fibrosis Trust instead of paying royalties.
A Special Child in the Family
I wrote this for parents of children with special needs, and it's about the emotional side of caring for a sick or disabled child. The first edition has been out of print for a long time, but I want the book to still be available to help parents so I have republished it in print and as an ebook. I have also put all the information online at www.specialchild.co.uk so everyone can read it.
Stories for Illustration
This collection of five picture book texts is designed to help would-be illustrators practise bringing stories alive with drawings. You can also use it for reading aloud at bedtime.
A Parent's Guide to Helping with Maths
I'm a mathematician as well as an author and, before I became a writer, I was a maths teacher. This book grew out of other parents asking me how to help their children at home. It's out of print now, but there are still some used copies around.
I still love helping students with maths so one day I may create another book or a website on the subject.
