Website Design

My move into web design started with a desire to publicise my own books but soon developed into a wider aim - to raise the profile of UK children's books online. That desire eventually resulted in The Word Pool - a highly successful website with book reviews, author profiles and information on writing for children. Coupled with that is a popular email discussion group for children's writers which helps take the loneliness out of this very isolated career.

The Word Pool is a partnership between myself and my husband, Steve. We both bring different skills to it. Mine are with books, writing and publishing while Steve's are with computers and software. Those skills combine perfectly with our experience in running our own booksite so we now build websites for other authors .

Our most recent project is www.contactanauthor.co.uk, which we set it up in response to the many emails and phone calls we had from people looking for an author to give a talk. It's proving to be an effective way for authors to advertise their availability for events and interviews and for journalists to find experts for quotes to use in articles.
